A tree falls down and is swept downriver until it reaches
the Freshford Mill weir where it gets stuck. Before the river reaches the
mill there is a relatively slow section (from the weir at Iford) so it
demonstrates just how powerful the river is to sweep this tree along.
with aging trees and ground that has become very soft
these two trees have fallen across the river. That will no doubt
become a tempting bridge for youngsters, and me! until it is removed.
Further down stream another tree has come down across the river. I don't
know whether the number of trees that have died or have fallen only to die
is a predictable number or not, but. there are a lot of sections of
woodland that have large gaps that will take many years to fill.
